Logistics-driven battlefield advances

Post by Admin (Dietrich) »

It's a long rambling video, but the section in question is 5m58s - 9m51s covers the reasons why Hoth's army took the route it did in the lead up to the Battle of Stalingrad.

The point being made is that the tactical situation may call for troops in a certain place, but the logistics dictates a different route. From the perspective of our DCS missions, we often focus on the "importance" of front line victories, forgetting the criticality of the logistics chain that sustains the overall offensive. Thus cargo ships, railways, convoys, supply columns and support points are all extremely important to the battlefield.
