SimpleRadio Standalone

This mod that Joker and I had a play with adds some interesting features and completely replaces the requirement for teamspeak. If you've used Task Force Radio or ACRE in ARMA, it's a similar sort of functionality, blending the game radios and their utility to a communications package. It offers various sound effects for transmissions and unlike TS, allows only one voice at a time just as the real things do.

I think Rob wants to use this for Georgian Spring at some point so probably worth getting up to speed with it.

I like it ... I really enjoyed Acre on Arma 2.

Fact however is, it is a bit of a faff compared to a TS channel.

Setup is pretty easy - albeit, I seemed to have a very noisy channel Tx ...hmm!

Happy to help folks through setup

S!

Thanks, was wondering about using something like this.

Will have a fiddle with it when we do some TF-51 training. :)

It is very easy to set up and use, it automatically connects to the correct server, all the player needs to do is turn on the radio.

It also enforces comms discipline and gets rid of needless chatter when in combat.

One advantage we have found is one pilot has a better ping when using this and turning TS off.

I should mention I don't recommend it for basic flying training, but do recommend it for all other trg. Keep TS for preflight briefing and debrief, this is not a good tool for that

I take it this only works with DCS?
It would be nice to have something similar for the other flight sims (IL2 series etc)

Yes, this one is DCS specific. I run a server on the server that is running the mission and it accesses the aircraft position and terrain to simulate degradation of the signal due to distance and line of sight.

Is the Spitfire supported by SimpleRadio yet?

I'm having trouble getting it to work, as the radio just shows as 'FC3 UHF, FC3 VHF and FC3 FM' (which suggests it's not implemented), and none of the buttons do anything - I've got it to work on the Mustang, and it seems to use the same radio, so is it just that the Spit is in Early Access and not supported yet, or do I need to do something different compared to the Mustang?

Don't think it is up and working in the Spit yet ... I certainly have not heard of it ....

Of course .... alternatively it could working and everyone is keeping it to themselves .... or that Dietrich has bugged the radio in the spitfire and is using it to order secret supplies of milk for the hidden 'little problem' ... when he slips off 'round the back of the tent for a sneaky cup of cha!
